The stabiliser bar, or anti-roll bar, links the two sides of an axle to limit body roll. Its bushings clamp the bar to the body or subframe and let it twist inside them.
The bushing has to grip the bar without play and without noise. The inner diameter must match the bar, which differs between versions of the same model; this is why the OE reference matters.
Worn bushings let the bar move in its mountings: a squeak or knock is heard over bumps and when turning into a driveway, and the car rolls more in corners.
